Atlanta Skydiving
Center Freefly Coach and Videographer Nate Gilbert will be remembered Saturday night in a
nationwide sunset tracking dive. Nate died from injuries
sustained in an accident on Friday. Information on Nate,
his services as well as thoughts from family and friends
can be found on the Dropzone.com and ASC forums as well
as www.ascskydive.com/nate
and www.chutingstar.com/rantandrave.html.
Besides being a world-class freeflier and videopgrapher,
Nate had organized countless tracking dives at ASC and given
so many of us great memories, and as well as better tracking
skills. Tyler Lawson is organizing the nationwide tracking
dive in which skydivers at drop zones around the nation
will participate in a sunset tracking dive to remember Nate.
Even if you are not on the dive, skydivers and others can
gather in the landing area for a moment of silence. Please
bring your beverage of choice for a toast afterwards to
Nate and as that is what Nate would want us to do - have
a great time and keep on skydiving!
It was a somber and busy week at ASC, but we can't forget
to congratulate our newest AFF Instructors who earned their
ratings under USPA President Glen Banngs. Congratulations
to Bruno Asmann, Chuck Owen, Rob Morris and Mark Kalupa
on their achievement! All four instructors are excited to
be helping our AFF students learn how to skydive. Nice job
guys!
We had two AFF student graduates this week as Phil Goldstucker
and Brent Register completed their 7 levels of instruction
and are now working toward their A License. Beer!
Mark your calendars! ASC is organizing a night of water
training at a gym pool in Cedartown on Friday, August 6,
from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Water training is a requirement for
the USPA B License. The water training is open to all skydivers,
regardless of jump numbers...from 1 to 10,000+ jumps. This
is a great experience for those who have never gone through
it. You will get live water training of climbing out of
a harness and parachute in water. Stewart Cavanaugh, Jim
Vance and Mike Gruwell will conduct the training. A $20
per person fee will include pool use, instruction as well
as pizza and beverages at ASC afterward. More information
will be posted at the dropzone and on the web site as we
get closer to the event.
See you all for $15 Wednesday as well as the Breakfast
Club of Canopy Piloting Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. The
Super Twin Otter is flying all week and weekend at ASC!
