A USPA coach rating course begins Friday, April 30, at 6 p.m. at
Atlanta Skydiving Center. The three-day course is being taught by USPA Coach
Course Director Mark Kalupa.
This course was originally slated to be
held in Pell City, but has been moved to Cedartown. There is still time to
register for the three-day course. Contact Lisa at the ASC manifest
office (770-684-3483) to register for the $100 course. Materials should be
ordered directly from the USPA. All candidates must have their coach
proficiency cards filled out and must help teach two 1st jump classes
before the course. Those skydivers who earn a USPA coach rating are
able to help Atlanta Skydiving Center's AFF graduates attain their A
License, while improving their overall flying skills.
And those coaches may be able start with some of last week's ASC AFF
program graduates, including Sheena Brunner, David Chose, Craig Duck
and Scott Shell. Welcome to the world of skydiving!
It was an absolutely beautiful week at ASC! The Breakfast Club of
Canopy Piloting held its weekly meeting from 4,000 feet on Thursday morning
at 8 a.m. Local swoopers honed their swooping skills. And Saturday was
absolutely the perfect skydiving day. ASC was rockin'! Cloudy skies
and afternoon rain slowed our jumping on Sunday, but we still managed 10
Twin Otter loads before the rain dumped on Cedartown.
4-way team Kinesis was training on Sunday and it was great to see
Charlie Cummins getting back into the air on Sunday after taking much of the winter off.
ASC 4-way formation skydiving teams made a good showing at the first
Georgia Skydiving League meet of the season last weekend.
Congratulations to Inviscid for its first-place finish in the Open Class. Kinesis
finished second in the Open Class, 3 points behind Inviscid. ASC intermediate
team Intrepid did well in the Intermediate Class. The next Georgia
Skydiving League meet is scheduled for Saturday, May 29, at Atlanta Skydiving
Center. Pickup teams are encouraged as free coaching/organizing is
available for all participants. Contact Mike Gruwell of Kinesis for
more information at 770-684-9910.
The Kinetic Energy 8-way teams will be training at ASC this Saturday.
Doug Glover currently has two full teams, but is trying to put together
more.
If you are interested in joining the Kinetic Energy 8-way or 16-way
teams slated to compete at Nationals this year, talk to Doug on Saturday.
The teams train the first Saturday of every month at ASC.
"Rigger in training" Kevin Kaminski (and Master Rigger Mike Gruwell)
registered three saves last weekend. Jesse Watson and Turner Drake
cutaway from malfunctioning tandem canopies at Atlanta Skydiving Center on
Saturday while Mark Kalupa had a malfuntioning tandem main at Alabama
Skydiving Center on Sunday. All three reserve canopies were last
inspected and repacked by Kevin under the supervision of Mike. Nice job Kevin!
Kevin is also looking for local skydiving photos and stickers to add
to the ASC After-Hours Open Bar. The photos will become a permanent
fixture to the free outdoor bar open every Saturday night.
Don't forget about the $15 Wednesdays as well as the $15 early-bird
jumps (before 10 a.m.) on Saturday and Sunday at ASC. See you this week!
