New Year Celebrated at Atlanta Skydiving Center with Midnight Skydive

A group of die-hard jumpers celebrated the New Year at Atlanta Skydiving Center when they exited the Super Twin Otter at midnight on New Year’s Eve. A big thanks to Fast Eddie Grantland for organizing the first jump over ASC in 2005. All of the night jumpers landed standing up near the target in the main landing area.

Congratulations to Benny and Ryan who made their first night jumps. Brie and fiancé’Travis made night jumps as well. This was Brie’s second night jump and her last requirement for the United States Parachute Association D License. Way to go Brie!

One of our friends from Michigan, Chuck Pope, stopped in at Atlanta Skydiving Center last week on his way to Florida for the winter. Chuck plans on visiting ASC throughout the winter when not busy in Florida. Chuck has some rigging work done to his Racer at Chuting Star Rigging Loft while in town. A new Mirage container is in store for Chuck in 2005!

Two student skydivers graduated the Accelerated Free Fall Program last week at ASC. Congratulations to Christopher Ford and Tom Henderson! The drop zone even received a case of beer for the community fridge after the graduation jump. Woohoo! We look forward to seeing you two out here jumping with the rest of us crazy skydivers on a regular basis.

ASC skydiver, Nick Carter, completed his USPA A License proficiency card over the weekend after making a couple of coaching jumps with Mike Gruwell as well as a 3-way Relative Work jump with Mike and Anthony Stone. Nice job Nick!

Freeflier Bryan McGuigan has completed the Relative Workshop tandem instructor course conducted by tandem examiner Stewart Cavanaugh. Bryan took up his first real “first-jump” students this week. Swooper and Freefly Organizer Tyler Lawson isn't far behind and he is completing his course jumps this week. You’ll be seeing a lot more tandem jumps by Bryan and Tyler this year. Welcome to the ASC Tandem Staff!

Lastly, we have one events calendar correction as the 2-way Relative Work competition is now set for Sunday, January 16. The competition briefing begins at 8 a.m. The first load is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. This competition is geared toward A and B License holders, but guest teams (with more experience) are welcome. Details on the event can be found on the ASC Skydiver Forums. Brian and Allison of ASC 4-way team Inviscid will be organizing and judging the competition.

Happy New Year! See you all out for $15 Lift Ticket Wednesday!
