Skydivers to jump Saturday here
From staff reports
The season is heating up as the last meet of the new season
for the Georgia Skydiving League flies over the skies of the
Atlanta Skydiving Center, at the Cornelius-Moore Airport on
Saturday, Aug. 18 for the final meet of the Georgia Skydiving
League 2001 season. The airport is located between Cedartown
and Rockmart in the Fish Creek Community. Teams will be competing
for points for the GSL Championship as well as a chance to
attend the NSL Championship 2001. The Georgia Skydiving League
champion will be crowned after the competition. Competition
begins at 9 a.m. and spectators are invited to the free event.
There are indoor and outdoor viewing areas plus a picnic section.
Tandems are available for spectators that may want to experience
the thrill of a skydive for themselves. During the competition,
the 4-way (person) formation skydiving teams will exit the
plane at 10,500 feet and perform a series of pre-selected
maneuvers within 35 seconds to earn points. At about 4,000
feet, the team members will separate and open their parachutes.
A videographer will record the jump from above the team. As
soon as the videographer lands, the tape is truned over to
the judge. The public can view the jumps on the drop zone
televisions. Shannon Pilcher, a member of the team DeLand
PD Blue, is the meet director and judge. PD Blue originally
formed when the members jumped in collegiate competition while
they were attending Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The team has
been the National Skydiving League Champion for the past three
years, won the bronze medal at the 1998 and 2000 U.S. National
Championship and placed third at the World Cup 2000. The Georgia
Skydiving League has been a part of the National Skydiving
League since 1998. This year, the National Skydiving League

involving 200 teams. The competition season culminates with
the NSL Americas Cup playoffs and theNSL Championship 2001
following the regular season. The NSL Americas Cup playoffs
