Celebrity Tony Hawk visits Polk County
Extreme sports athlete Tony Hawk made a surprise visit to Polk County Friday, bringing other sports celebrities with him for a morning of skydiving fun.
Cornelius Moore Airfield, located at the unincorporated Fish Creek community, between Rockmart and Cedartown, is home to the Atlanta Skydiving Center. The small rural airport has developed a regional reputation as a great location for skydiving and enjoys steady business from the Atlanta area.
Hawk was in the area for the Tony Hawk's Boom Boom Huck Jam tour. The show, set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Philips Arena in Atlanta, features stunts and exhibitions of extreme sports athletes, including skateboarding, BMX bikes and Moto X stars.
Hawk was invited to Polk County by some of the skydivers who regularly jump at the site. Hawk was joined by BMX star Mat Hoffman and several of the other athletes from the show.
The group made several jumps at the Polk County airport before heading back to Atlanta early Friday afternoon for press interviews and to get ready for the show.
